Massage Therapy F.A.Q.

Everyone is different and it varies from person to person, but at least one massage per month is recommended.

Essence Acupuncture & Wellness takes pride in professionalism and care for our clients. During your session, you will be covered at all times with a sheet and a blanket. The only area that needs to be uncovered is the area being massaged. Before your massage session begins, you will have a consultation to discuss the areas that will be massaged. Some clients prefer to be completely undressed and some leave their undergarments on. It depends on your comfort level

Massage Therapy is very beneficial to assist in reducing stress and anxiety in the body. A relaxation response can be signaled through touch.  This causes reduction in blood pressure, an increase in blood flow, and a decrease of heart and breathing rate.  It also causes muscles to relax and a decrease in stress hormones.

People who are needing a massage to assist with stress and anxiety are highly encouraged to receive messages frequently. It is recommended to receive a massage every one to two weeks.  Massage therapy helps combat stress, anxiety, and insomnia due to stress.  Being consistent with receiving massages can be very beneficial.

There are many ways massage can ease pain. One way is by increasing blood flow to sore, stiff joints and muscles. The extra circulation warms them up. Also, in the brain there are natural painkillers called endorphins. Massage can trigger the release of these into the body. The way the brain senses pain may be changed by massage.
